2006

May 6th : Jim Nunally & Judy Forrest Jim and Judy will
perform American roots music including traditional
country, bluegrass and folk, featuring two guitars, two
voices, and occasional mandolin.

Jim Nunally is an award-winning musician whose third-
generation traditional music roots began in Arkansas.
This pedigree contributes to his unmistakably
traditional sound.  Jim performs with Canada's John
Reischman and the Jaybirds, and California's David
Grisman Bluegrass Experience, Due West, and in duos
with Dix Bruce and Keith Little.

Judy Forrest performs in the Bay Area's old-time/early
country trio No Hiding Place.  She is drawn to the
metaphor, imagery, and irony inherent in traditional
music's treatment of human weakness and misfortune. Her
repertoire encompasses music from the early country
stylings of Jimmie Rodgers, the Carter Family, and
Ralph Stanley, to contemporary artists, and according
to her nine-year-old daughter is "the best singer and
guitarist in the world."

November 5th, Concert : Chulrua (pronounced cool-ROO-ah), translates from the Irish as "red back," and was the name and distinguishing feature of the favorite wolfhound belonging to ancient Irish hero Fionn MacCumhaill. It is also the name of an internationally acclaimed trio of some of the most respected and unique exponents of Irish traditional music. Button accordion icon Paddy O'Brien has accumulated a veritable hoard of rare versions of tunes and stories gleaned from more than forty years of patiently seeking out and spending time with older musicians throughout Ireland. Also an avid student of the old masters, Patrick Ourceau is a virtuoso on the fiddle, and a particular specialist in the style and repertoire of Clare and East Galway. For twenty years, Tipperary man Pat Egan has developed his own powerfully emotive style of guitar accompaniment and vocal delivery. He has chosen to feather his nest with some wonderful but little-known songs, old and new, that fit into both traditional and contemporary contexts.
